Overview

Purpose

Standardize root cause identification to identify patterns and trends across incidents. We ship with well thought out thematic root causes that will apply to most situations so you can get up and running as fast as possible.

What It Does

  • Provides a predefined list of standardized root causes

  • Enables consistent RCA categorization across teams

  • Helps identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities

How to configure

  • Standard Root Causes: Predefined categories like "Infrastructure", "Code Bug", "Configuration Error", etc

  • Custom Root Causes: Add organization-specific categories

  • Categorization: Map incidents to standardized root causes during RCA completion

To add a root cause, simply add your new root cause, and click "Add Root Cause"

Benefits

  • Pattern Recognition: Identify recurring issues across teams and products

  • Trend Analysis: Track root cause trends over time

  • Process Improvement: Focus improvement efforts on high-impact root causes

  • Knowledge Sharing: Standardize terminology across teams

Best Practices

Keep any new causes you add thematic, not specific, this helps when looking for overall trends and can then be turned into actions to reduce future incidents.
